Mavic 117 and 217 rims - what's the difference?

Can anyone please help explain the difference between Mavic's 117 and 217 rims? Looking at the label on the rims the size appears to be the same - 559 x17.

I'm guessing the extruded profile could be different? Is one supposed to be stronger than the other?

Will they both use the same length spokes?

Thanks.

Re:

217 came after the 117.
Now I cannot remember them coming out but memory from the forum is...
217 is a refined lighter version of the 117 with machined walls, paving the way for what we have today in the 717/317

Pop to bikepro for fullspecs and a detailed review (at least of the 117 and a hint of 217 as it was coming out in 95ish when it was written).

I forget which way but there is a 1mm spoke length difference iirc.

Re:

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of Bikepro - really useful information. :)

I'm not sure I can see why they'd need different length spokes so I'm going to cross my fingers and try to swap the existing 117 for a 217 using the same spokes....

The ERD is about 3mm different, assuming you have the correct spoke length in it now should be fine.
