ok, remind me what needs to be undone to remove the top cap in order to replace a spring.

I know the small grub screw (3) to remove the alloy adjuster(2) needs to be undone.
There is a alloy cap (5) and a circlip type wire spring (1) that need undoing but .... after that I can't remember.

It's the circlip that is confusing me; why dos it need to be removed - the crown has a step inside so the stanchions don't push through the top, the cap screws into the stanchions and the circlip stops the cap/stanchions from dropping down - right?

Springs not circlips. Calling them circlips confuses things ;)
As i would do it.
Take off safety springs- You to be doing it with the crown off ,and youll need to access the springs so you'll need really long thin fingers, or the other side off too,so you can compress the fork to access them, though that will pish oil everywhere, as will attempting to turn them upside down so best one at a time, with the crown off ;)

Simple when you know marzocchi's cunning conundrum ;)

Have the preload at its lowest setting ie backed right off
Loosen grub screw on preload adjuster.
Take off preload adjuster.
Remove circlip (that hides under the preload adjuster).
Undo top cap. I think its a 26mm(or 2:cool:
Last wee bit apply a bit of downward pressure, no doubt be loose enough to undo by hand, so mind its under a bit of pressure so will spring out a bit. And i think its an idea as it avoids any risk the the final threads.
Cap off, push down stanchion and lift out spring.
Wipe spring clean(Bath towels are super absorbent ;) Though you may need to hide it afterwards.)
Put in new spring, adjust the oil and reverse the dismantling process.

Re:

Yes. Circlup (4)

So i dont need to remove the safety clip, iSTR having to, is it stoppng the socket from fitting?

A hooked puece of wire to lift spring.
