Marzocchi Bombers Z3.5

Retro Newbie
Hi all, nice to meet you - I’m new here.

I’ve just completed a build of a 2000 Specialized Rockhopper FS with majority original parts - please take a look at my photos.

I managed to source a great set of 2001 coil/oil Z3.5 Marzocchi Bombers that were originally sold with the Specialized P3. They are a perfect match colour-wise and in great condition. Being a heavier rider, what options do I have to increase stiffness? I’ve set pre-load as far as it will go but they’re still a little bouncy when riding uphill. Would a heavier weight oil help?

Thanks for any input.

I'm no expert but most of the Marzocchi forks are easy to work on and parts are available. As above, you probably need a stiffer spring if you're a heavier rider.
Heavier oil will slow the compression and rebound but you really need to get the spring right first then tweak the damping.
A quick google seach should find you a manual with diagrams and instructions for working on them.
And welcome - bike looks great!

Thanks for the responses - much appreciated. I’ve found the right manual - any idea where I’d source springs in the UK?

Cheers

Check this .... https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...filtering&_ssn=slk.r171&_oac=1&_nkw=marzocchi that's a well known seller Piotr from PL selling on Ebay UK.

Will be a little tricky to find correct springs, you need so find out serial numbers and details (hard, x-firm, may be springs colour) from the net/manuals/charts.

Try to ask parallel @ Facebook Marzocchi group https://www.facebook.com/groups/retromarzocchimtb - I believe it is the most active Marzocchi group.

I did some harder 100 and 130 mm travel springs for 30mm stanchion forks but down't know for sure it will fit.
