Marin Team FRS

Hello people,

Cheers Ringo!

Took delivery of the FRS yesterday and sadly it does need a fair bit of TLC. Her heart is still bating though! Also to add, she is very light, surprised me how light.

Question(s), the purple Manitou’s are Manitou 2 right? (they have a 2 on them) Why do people called them 3 (or 3rd Manitou’s), are they just wrong or am I missing something? They have the adjusters on the bottom so I thin they’re Manitou 2’s. Please can someone confirm 100% as I need to know for replacement parts. Thanks.

What is the rear suspension referred to as? Manitou 2 rear?

Ok the FRS looks like this/needs this work:

Manitou 2 Folks- need new internals – anyone know a good place I can get these in the UK, failing that in the US

Manitou (2) REAR Suspension - need new internals – anyone know a good place I can get these in the UK, failing that in the US

Planning on a full re-spray treatment and I want to get it looking exactly the same as the original paint job (has some flaking paint and rust patches) – anyone know a good place I can get this done in the UK?

Seat tube starting section (where the frame end and the seat post would slot into) looks like it has been banged down by something (abused!) any way of fixing this?

Need original Marin decals or VERY good reproductions

2 new Marin Lite bottle cages needed

Bar ends could do with replacing/re-spray (not too bothered about this after all it’s a Mountain bike)

New black off road tyres PINK TYRES ARE FOR SALE – OFFERS

Rest of it is ok!

Cheers people!
:D

Shame... sound like a little more work than the seller alluded to...

No expert on Manitous, front end should be relatively easy to sort - back has the potential to be a nightmare! Other people will know better - but one option will be to keep an eye out for a broken Manitou frame. In your case the more broken the better (as bizarrely the slightly cracked ones still go for daft money).

There is a guy on here (Gil?) who does excellent decals... again other will be able to give you his precise details.

Glad you are going the whole hog with it, If I were you, I would start a thread in the pre 97 section and photo document the rebuild. This should generate a lot of interest and maybe someone will come up with some of the parts you require...

As JeRkY said, what was the deal with the wheels? £400 for STX hubs. Oh, and I'll take those tyres off you, if you give me twenty quid :D :D

yes manitou 2 at the front and identical at the rear .

should be some elastomeres in there . some kits on ebay . u will need one for the front and one for the rear .

Argod do a good job fro respray .

contact Gil_m on here , he will sort you some decals .

Nice bike you got there

The Manitous on it are the 2.

Here you can find yourself some information and parts for 'm:
http://www.suspensionforkparts.net/

I hope you do change the tires of the bike I've seen on the Bay.

There still are enough people around that are realy gifted with something to make a bike look an under-appreciated make-believe while actualy the opposite is the real truth... How do they do that ?

I have Manitou 3's which i've modified the internals myself with springs/spacers etc(i work in engineering so don't ask what i've done! Lol, took alot of trial and error).
I know you can buy spring replacement sets for the ageing elastomers, apparently dual springs(stiffer short one mixed with a longer soft one)is the way to go, they for sale on ebay usually. But i do know there are places over in America that sell the elastomers if you choose that route.

just remember springs on there own have no damping, why spoil a good looking bike with s**t handling

you would be better getting elastomers, they will last a good time and are not that expensive to replace($45 each end)

imho if they were designed to use elastomers then that is the way to go.

very much looking forward to the way this one progresses

cheers

stubbsy :D

Thanks! I was leaning to the elastomers
and so far 3 people have supported this so I'm
gonna order them now.

Once the suspension is sorted, and I see it
all working I'm gonna ride it, then strip it
and get it treated & repainted in the
original paint, decision is whether it's a local
supplier or one based in Bristol...

Cheers
