I confess... I have too may bikes BUT Mountain Mayhem looms and:
a. My 1990 Kona Fire Mountain is too heavy / crap to race for 6 hours
b. My 1993 Kona Explosif is giving my neck issues
c. I haven't fixed my 1997 Kona Hei Hei King Kahuna's frame yet
d. I don't own any other retros
so.... I need something comfy and retro to ride for 6 hours at Mayhem. It'll be using lots of NOS (nasty old shite) that I collected from the tip and spares box and the bike will probably be sold on after the race! I have been looking for ages for something suitable, i.e cheap, the right size and pre 1998. Well, this old dog popped on eBay a few miles from where I live, start price £25 with one bid with 6 hours to go. I did a last minute bid of £40 and....... nobody else bid! Mine for £26!
Here she is, a 36 lbs (yes, over 16 kilos) of 1999 Marin Shoreline trail. Not quite as old as I would have liked, but 19" and cheap. Sweet! Let the rebuild begin!
