Marin Quake 9.0 Advice

Hey thanks, it looks ok to me, I can't see the brown tint though. ;-). I'm thinking about doing the colour similar to how the mount vision pro looked, i thought that's what yours looked like.

Cheers

Simon.

Its not far off the Mount vision colour...The colour I wanted was the same colour of the piston on the X-Fusion rear shock and similar to some suss fork stantions (not for colour coding just cause I liked the colour!)

Wow that is terribly listed! I'm half tempted, I always liked the hard tails. I'm howerver suspisious when someone has a bike that rare but seems to know nothing about it.

It would need respray, I certainly prefer your old one to the polished look this one has. May be I could try the darker finish on this first? :)

Its only the second one I've seen in maybe 5-6 years...looks like it will go for peanuts as the listing so bad!....My particular favourite:

"has got one off the best tyers on it wich is kenda they are like bread new."

Genius!

I just stripped my Quake 9 down last month and sold the frame for £70.

It was a small frame 17.5" and I bought new in 97 and built it up using the correct components apart from some Z1 bombers and XT crank.

I was lucky and did not suffer the cracks, but it seems the larger the frame the more likely it was to crack at the head tube. Mine only had a cage mount under the down tube.

I did find that the backend got a bit jumpy on fast decents, too much spring and not enough damping with the vanillia R.

Shame you missed it.

The eBay Quake

Has unfortunately been "updated" using poor quality components (no front mech changer, pro max levers, tourney 7 speed rear mech. and so on.

What would be the best way to put it back to the way it should be?

i had a quake from new (we sold them!) the rear swingarm alignment on the early ones were dodgy, i even took mine to the importers in hastings to sort out (they gave me a new swing arm) i replaced the forks with manitou fs ti's. the cranks were replaced with cooks and the brakes with magura hs33's.
i dont remember bottle mounts on the top, mine was an 18.
i loved it and cant remember for the life of me what i did with it but i raced it downhill and it survived. i recall thinking now i replaced it with a kona chute and a trek y22.
get one but check for play in the back end because you aint gonna get another :D
fyi. i saw one at leisure lakes in daventry around 2 years ago for £250 that looked original and have seen them sell for £200 on ebay so they are out there.
