Hi, does anyone know much about these? I can’t find a great deal of info on the internet, it’s the first full suspension retro project bike that I’ve had and would like to know a bit more about it.
It was in a right state when I picked it up (via Gumtree) but I had a feeling that it’s a fairly decent bike as it had XT/XTR bits and white industries cranks. The frame is light and solid, if a little marked up from use - but no cracks anywhere. I’m planning to clean it up, rebuild it and see how I get on with it, might take it up Chicksands on the trails once it’s done.

Re:

Ok, thanks for the info, looks like an admin might have to move this in to the 98 onwards forum..

I think they ran concurrently with the Rift Zone/ Mount Vision which were introduced in '96 for the '97 season. I bought a Rift Zone in March '97. The Quake was more expensive with the monocoque frame but used the same swinging arm. They ride very well. My wife's brother has an as new Quake 9.0. Sadly he's a collecter, not a rider so it'll never get a good thrashing!

Re:

Thanks for the info, having stripped it down and started to re-assemble I am very impressed with the quality of the bike in general. I’m struggling to get the front derailleur working properly at the moment - It came fitted with an XT derailleur but it won’t mount low enough due to the bottom of the clamp touching the frame in the bb area. This means the chain rubs the bottom of the derailleur cage when on the lowest (granny) ring. I’m wondering if it’s the wrong derailleur - the bike came to me fitted with a complete jumble of parts. Anyone know what groupset it would have been specced with when new?

This was brought out for 1997 catalogue. The quake 5.0 and the higher specced quake 9.0 with off white decals as opposed to the red quake 5. I m sure theres a pdf of the 97 catalogue on the retrobike site? I ve got a 5 and a 9. Great bikes but very noisy!! Same issue with front derailleur as you, can be a bugger to set up not helped by the frs design hampering the limit screws. Keep an eye on rear swingarm for cracks. Happy riding
