Marin pedal spindle diameter

Hi guys,

I just bought a bike! A Marin bike.
I have to admit I'm not sure it's old enough to fit in this forum...while I investigate on the age of the bike, do you know if the diameter of the pedals spindle is 9/16 for all Marin bikes, by any chance?

I need to change the pedals, and I'd like to order the new one before I get the spanner to get the old ones off (because I have a thousand spanners but not a 15mm than fits...).

Cheers!

Thanks!

I don't know. That's why I'm having troubles understanding how old it is.
It's got v-brakes so it can't be that old.
I'll investigate, maybe post some pictures

Anyway, beside 9/16 it can only be 1/2, right? The difference should then be pretty evident

Re:

As I understood it, single piece cranks are 1/2 inch pedals. Three(?) piece cranks are 9/16 inch pedals.

Regards,

Dave

Thank you guys,
I feel pretty confident in buying 9/16 pedals then.

I'm just going to buy cheap ones for a fiver, but still it would have been a shame to get the wrong ones.

I went to a nearby bicycle shop asking if he could take off the pedals for me.
Surely, I thought, a 30s job costs less than buying a spanner.

He asked me £9.50...
His hourly rate must be exceeding £1000/hr...

Yep, that's why you see a Ferrari outside every bike shop.
And how much other work was he doing? And was this guy sitting in the street or was he in a building he has to rent, heat, light and pay rates on?

If you don't like it, pick up your own spanner.

Of course I do.
Same price and I bought a spanner and I get to do the job as many times as I want.

He can pay his rent with your money.

Re:

£9.50 seems a bit steep but unless I was a regular customer I wouldn't expect to walk in and get it done for free. For all he knew your pedals might have been welded on by years of neglect which they sometimes are.
Maybe if you bought your new pedals from him he would do it for free? Alternatively you can buy a "gratitube" - meaning buying an inner tube which the LBS will have a big markup on as a sign of thanks.
