So i've had this 88 Pine Mountain tucked away for a few years now and have now decided to bring it back to life again, but!
I'm in a bit of a dilemma because although it was a dream bike as a kid i want to actually ride it but if it's to big there's no point going to all the trouble and money building it so may aswell sell it and look for a 19 inch frame.
And that's why i need your help on how your meant to measure a Marin.
I feel like i'm clutching at straws hoping it's going to be a 19" frame and not a 20" because the four measurements i've got have the 20" winning 3 to 1 lol

So enough waffling and get to the nitty gritty, is it or isn't it?
Measurements are:
Centre of BB to top of Seatube 20.5"
Top of BB to Top of seatube 20"
Centre of BB to Centre of Seatube 20"
And finally the only one i could get to be 19 inches was Top of BB to Centre of Seatube 19"🤞

So which one is it?

Marin measured centre bb to centre top tube / seat tube so looks like yours is a Marin 20"? Retro bikes are tiny though so can't you do a basic build and give it a try?
Yeah that seems like a good idea because if i sell it then i won't have one which isn't a good thought and the likely hood of another turning up is practically nil lol
It turned out to be a silly idea selling my other ones i had a few years ago to get some money for a build,i just thought i'll find another soon enough, not 😂😂

Centre of bb to centre or top tube.

The 88 and 87 bikes don't always measure up quite right, especially the lugged pine mountains. The headtubes are also considerably smaller than the 89 onwards bikes....so i would probably take that into consideration when sizing up for your fit.

They designed them for 25o stems not 10o of the latter years...to get your stack up... hence your low headtube on what in our eyes now seems like a big frame bike.

They also designed them to be run like an old skool mtb with a shorter seatpost, in a relatively tall tube....

If i recall, they went 18" 20" 22"....? But thats a long time ago in a shop far far away!🤣

I would stick some wheels and a post in, a 25o stem with probably about 110mm reach on that size and see how it feels and make sure you have bail out room....errrrr...below....as such!

Brill frames, i keep looking for a big big one, but they really rare sadly.
