Marin East Peak rear shock removal

Hi guys, I am in the process of stripping a Marin East Peak down to rebuild it, have got to the swing arm and for the life of me can't get the shock off the swing arm, i'm reading you simply undo one side and tap the bold back through but this bolt doesn't want to move at all, have squirted WD40 and smacked with a big hammer, it spins round fine but won't move sideways at all.

Am I missing something?

Re:

Air shock = Have you let the pressure out?
Coil shock = Have you backed the spring collar off to relieve the tension?
Assuming that's been done, screw the shock bolt back in (but not all the way) so you have something to bash with a mallet and that should get pivot pin moving then you can take the bolt out and drive it the rest of the way through :)

It's coil shock and is totally loose, swing arm is off the bike it's just not wanting to release the shock.

I had another go tightening the nuts on either side and knocking it through from the opposite side and have managed to move it about 2mm and the shock doesn't turn when I loosen the nuts now so I think it's just badly seized, have coated in WD40 and left at work so will give it another go in the morning.

Re:

Right, i'm with you now, yes, the chances are it's seized in there one way or another, if it's not been used for a while the alu collars may well have started to corrode and stick to the steel pin (insert word for that I can't think of right now) so yes, let it soak then get a bigger hammer

Re:

Had another go at it this morning, have managed to move the bolt about 2mm but still won't come out, it does seem to be the alloy collars it is stuck to.

Anyone know if you can just buy a new bolt and the two alloy collars then I can just cut the bolt off and replace it?

Edit: A bigger hammer was needed. Sorted.

there is likely to be a bush over the bolt, and this has seized/rusted onto the bolt.

support the underside of the shock and try tapping the bolt out using a drift - careful not to mushroow the bolt and as it then becomes too big to go trhough the bush.

Cheers managed to get it off in the end with a bigger hammer and a lot of elbow grease.

Now it is out has anybody got any recommendation on what to replace the goosed shock with or are the ones fitted worth getting fixed?

Re:

Personally I wouldn't bother having the old one fixed given the cost compared with even the most basic Fox air shock which in my opinion will still out perform the standard coil shock 100 times over, maybe if you were looking at taking some BIG hits look at the coils which as you have the old standard swing arm is NOT a good idea
These frames are made for air units and feel sooo much better with one
And yes, I am talking from experience, I've had several of these Marins in the past and currently have a y2k one. :D
