Manitou SX - opinions & advice please

I'm building a 1999 Orange MrXC - and the original fork on it was a Manitou SX.

Early versions were fitted with the 80mm travel forks - later ones with 100mm possibly.
The SX is a pretty light XC fork - which is pretty ideal for the riding I do.

Are they easy to maintain?
What was the SX-R - how was it different?

So do I look out for a blue SX / SX-R - or do I go for something like a Pace RC36 EvoIII - or RC38 AirforceII?

I have a blue sx-r in good condition if you decide to go down that route.Not disc compatible though,taken from a `99 Marin East Peak

just check the stancions for wear ,usually at the front behind the brace
nice fork ,light and supple
i've only tried the 80mm version tho there's manuals on suspensionfork parts site

It's an Orange.

Only a Pace fork will do or your bike will not perform for you. Remember - the wand chooses its master, not the other way round.

So what do you recommend? Has to be disc And fairly period correct

Pro Class II or AirForce 1 would be period. Airforce 1 is very short travel though so maybe not right for your frame.

AF1 is only 60mm - the '99 MrXC was supplied with an 80mm

Are the ProClassII disc-mountable?

I'd go for a fork that was 2000 - 2001

The manitou sxr from 2000 is disc compatible and 80mm or 100mm depending which model you can find,they are a great fork,but so are the pace,they both have grease injection and are easy to maintain

The Manitou is arguably the less trendy - and therefore cheaper - so I may get a set as an interim solution until I get some Pace RC??

The SX is pretty light too isn't it?
