manitou fragility

I had a manitiou hard tail I bought new in 94 ,full xtr with judy sls
It never cracked.
Ihad it nicked in 2005 which led to my first post on this site asking the 40 odd members at the time to keep an eye out for it.
I still look for it on the bay etc even now

do other frames with program tubing suffer from the same fate? also its the head tube mostly, is that tube program? mine also racked in the rear CNC machined crown (FS)... so maybe there jsut flimsy al round... still fabulous BID

Proflexes from the late 90's (857s and similar) were ProGram Easton aluminium and don't seem to suffer from cracks however they are full suss so I guess don't expose the aluminium to the same stresses.

wasn't it program on the early manitou and yeti arc, then it change to elite or ultro lite after a few years... and the maniou FS crack all over as well...

its unfortunately because of the super super thin easton elite tubing they used...frame is ridiculously light.
same tubing used on the yeti´s and they also crack.

the old zaskars from alcoa alloy held up much better.

my manitou ht frame has also the typically hairline crack in the headset area
but i asked a frame welder and he had repaired some manitous in the past, should be no problem to fix.
i hope so, because the ht i smy favourite looking ht of all time - simply love it. i only wish they had used another tubing and no easton ultralight

also heard of some cracked original 00buckshots as they used the same ultralight elite easton tubing.

bitd i had a 99 zaskar le made of easton tubing and it also cracked

not a big fan of easton tubing.
