Manitou 3 Englund Cartridge - Help Sought.....

Hi,

I've been spending the day stripping down a few pairs of Manitou 3 and 4 forks in order to put together two working forks (each has issues with them so mixing and matching). In a pair of Manitou 3 forks I have come across the cartridge shown in the photo.

Now confirmed as an Englund.

Does anyone else on here have the same cartridge as the previous owner has sawn through the shaft, I will need to work out how to replace it and thus will need correct measurements.

I really need to know the measurements of the elastomer skewer and the top machined section so I can get a friend to make me some replicas. Thank you.

That's an interesting piece of kit. I have several Englund air cartridges for Manitou and a Manitou 3 that has been coverted to use a Manitou EFC damper cartridge but I've never seen an Englund damper unit. Where does the oil go in there? Does it go in the pencil thin aluminum shaft? I'm perplexed as to how this contraption would work... If it's a properly functioning oil damper, I would say why don't you ditch the elastomers and convert to a speed springs kit?

That's the plan, I have springs ready to fit but am keen to combine both the Englund damper and the springs. The oil does go into the pencil thin shaft, it's an incredibly basic set up. The white plastic section is upside down in the photo, that part screws onto the top once the oil has been replaced.

I see... I'm wondering why they wouldn't have made a bigger diameter aluminum shaft to carry more oil volume? The oil damper in a Manitou EFC is pretty big in dimensions compared to this. Right now this feels like an extra long version of an AMP fork damper. This also reminds me of a Dirt Works OTIS aftermarket spring and oil damper setup.

The shaft goes through the hole in the bottom of the stanchions and then attached to the bottom of the fork, I agree with you wholeheatedly regarding the 'what the hell, shoulda made it bigger' comment though, there's plenty of space in the fork.
