Manitou 2 Elastomer Change, help required please

I've got to do this on my front & rear (pine FRS)
tomorrow, they also look hinged up...few questions:

Does anyone know the size of Allan key needed?

What's best to get rid of the gunc?

Buying replacement elastomers-will I need all
new internals in addition to the elastomers?

Advice appreciated (want to get the FRS) tip top
again.

Hi,

the allen key size for Manitou 1 forks is 6mm. Not sure if that varies across the models though.

In terms of getting rid of the gunk, I don't know if any solvents would help or not (though if you try them, be sure to clean out the inners very well before regreasing). Much of my efforts were using the bolts to scrape around inside and then scraping it all off the bolt (it's was all very sticky).

With regards to other internals, I found that the plastic bushings had survived unscathed, but that the black rebound rubber at the top of the stack had also melted. One tip I read somewhere is that both of these could be replaced in the Maniotu 1 by cutting one spare small elastomer in two. Not sure if that's the same for Manitou 2s or not.

I'VE HIT THE GUNK! :twisted: Its that sticky its like superglue and I've spent 20 mins 'trying' to get it off my fingers :roll:

However thank you PDL for that guide its should help me.

Its going to be a *&^%$%$ to get them clean but I'm determined to do so!

HELP PLEASE!

Front Manitou 2 forks:
I have got the parts on, new elastomers etc, but I cant get the stancions back on when I have the plastic bushes on in the right place... any ideas?

Stancions on without plastic bushes? (what will it do/not do?)

Got this far and massively &*&^%$£$ off the stancions won't go on.

Rear Manitou 2 suspension:
Any idea on instructions for these?Can't find it anywhere.

PLEASE HELP!

Bushes must be loose, squeezed up through the wiper seal, and then the waher in the assembly will push the lower bush in to place. . .
