Maguras

Had Vs on that bike for a decade and then changed 'cause I felt I "needed" the Maguras ... but actually I was never too happy with them. By the way, I could sell you mine then  just shipping from Austria might be expensive

I had some fitted to a alloy Trek BITD and i remember a friend of mine pulling at the lever and watching the brake boss splay outwards

use thinner tyres to clear the brace?

maguras are awesome. i just put a set on my zaskar. the stopping power is the same as a good v brake and then if you need more and really pull the lever hard, then be prepared to find the extremes of power they have, and the frame bending talked about above.

also once they are set up, pad changing is as easy as playing with lego blocks.

bye bye stupid cantilever cone washers, 10mm spanner and 5mm allen key juggling and time consuming fussy annoying brake pad setups...

sweet!

I have a similar problem with Maguras and Race Kings on my Kona - i can't take the wheels out (or better back into the frame) because i don't have enough space although i already removed on side of of the brake with the QR. That's not enough, I also have to remove the brake pad as well, then it works - but the booster is not a problem

My conclusion (and plan for this weekend) is: exit Magura, enter Speed Dial

You can also buy a second QR for the other side instead.

Thanks for the hint, that might be an option as well, but I've already got the Speed Dials, Single Digits and Jagwires for brakes and mechs

Nearing completion of Cannondale F900 rebuild, with only chainrings and chain to find (94BCD rings hanging around, anyone?)

I have Magura HS33s, which are proving a bit tricky to get set up. I am running Conti Race Kings and it appears the Magura booster is just too small to fit over them properly. Does this sound likely?

Can I run them without the boosters...?

Also the master pistons pump well but the slaves much less so. Is there a guide on bleeding here somewhere?

Pics of bike to follow. In my opinion (being a long term Cannondale-fancier) it is looking the knees of the bee

I'm a big magura fan, I have 4 sets of HS33's for my four MTB's :D , and a spare set of brand new pads to set them up with!

To test if the brakes need bleeding, put pads in the slave pistons, in one hand hold both slave pistons with both braking surfaces together, witht he other hand squeeze the brake lever, if there is any significant in the brake lever without the slave pistons moving then your system need bleeding. CRC do the kits, but they only really come with enough fluid to do one F & R set.

Odd for the brace not to fit over the tyre, where is it rubbing, how wide are the rims you're using, which way around do you have the Evo mounts (slave holders in or out)?

They will work without the braces, just a little less powerful.
