Magura Marta brakes

Re:

It would seem my brake is leaking from the piston in the lever as when you pull the lever there are traces of mineral oil on the blade just below the piston

From reading around no spares are available so it looks like end of the line unless I can find a lever someone has as spares. Otherwise I will maybe sell them on as spares for someone else.

Re:

Have you heard from the seller yet?
Probably time to open a paypal case against him. That'll persuade him to respond.

just had a quick look - the lever acts on a stepped cyclindrical rod that I suspect is the piston - I did not look hard enough to see what happens at the rod where it enters the brake lever body but if there was a leaky seal, the top of the rod would be wet.

if you are convinced that this where it is leaking i.e. the brake lever body is not cracked, you can take it apart and with luck, it may use some standard size o-rings.

have you contacted magura?

worst case you sell them on as spares - I did mention I have a lever that you could cannabilise but right now can't find it; if you are interested in it, I can look harder.

Re:

O2 appreciate your help but have now opened a case against the seller. Even if I got the brakes working how long before further possible problems and no spares?

My old Shimano XT's have lasted 7 years until the calipers started leaking. I could have just bought two new slx calipers for £45 and sorted.

Re:

Magura Martas are guaranteed for five years so probably just out of warranty, hence the sale.
Unfortunately this is often the case with brakes. The number of Hope C2s "in perfect working order/ in need of a bleed/service" I have bought over the years that were fubarred probably reaches double figures.
Fortunately it's pretty obvious, pretty damn quickly.
