Magura Marta brakes

Hi,

I picked up a set of used Magura Marta's recently (2008 SL model) as I needed some decent brakes for my 'new' bike. I know a few people on here have them and rate them highly.

The seller (from another bike forum) mentioned the rear needed a bleed. Having done this and left the bike over the weekend the lever now goes all the way to the bar again.

Anyone had experience of this? From searching the internet it sounds like the MC is leaking and it does seem to be leaking oil around the lever pivot.

I presume that I have no other options now as Magura don't do spares?

Its a shame as the calipers seem fine.

If anyone has any experience or tips that would be much appreciated.

confirm the location of the oil leak; bleed brake, dust the lever with talc, apply brake swith elastic band and wait for the talc to be washed away.

if the body is not cracked, it is most likeky to be a seal - I'd be surprised if you cannot get replacement seals. you checked it is not the hose bolt or seal that is not leaking?

if you stuggle, then I recoon I may have brake lever (marta SL - probably not carbon lever and possibly in red) right hand that I can sell you to cannabilise the internals should you get really stuck but you are better off getting new parts.

Yes...I have looked for new seals before but they are unavailable as spares I believe. You should take this up with the seller really now

thanks everyone, input much appreciated.

have emailed seller this morning, just hope he is obliging...

PS if ytou do contact them, ask them to pop a couple of the tiny torx screws that hold the reservoir cover down :)

Re:

02 thanks for the tip on the torx screws, that may solve the front leak. I have time this weekend so will do a proper check on the rear lever leak.

No reply from the seller :( and tbh just want some working brakes. I may have to try and fix these as cash is tight but if not they may have to go for spares. At least this weekend Ill be rebuilding my Kona Kilauea so looking forward to riding that again.
