Magura HS22 pads?

Good morning all, a couple of weeks back i landed an immaculate '97 proflex animal from ebay, I've had it out for a few miles and it rides brilliantly with no creaks or play in bushings or anything!
It has the original HS22 brakes on it which work flawlessly, however, the pads have gone rock solid and as such I may as well be using bricks against my rims to brake!
Would it be possible to pull the pads out and just sand/file them down a bit to bring life back to them, or are they simply bin fodder and I should hold off riding the old girl till I can source some new ones come payday?
Hoping sanding may work as I'd love to get out on it this afternoon is all!
Thank you in advance, John.

You try and tell us

Worst thing that might happen is, that the beaking force is a bit on the weak side.

Re:

yes you can use emery paper or a smooth file to just take the surface off the pads, they can sometimes become a bit glazed, worth removing any fragments of aluminium that might be stuck in the pads too.
I've found generic replacement pads work about the same as the stock "black" pads (ie all round use), and they're cheap enough on eBay etc.
You can get all kinds of softer/grippier compounds though, just take a look at a Trials bike website.

edit: brake pads can go hard with age, if yourd are still original then it might be worthwhile replacing them anyway. But it shouldn't stop you riding the bike.

Re:

I'd imagine they will be the original pads as it has the original wtb velociraptor tyres in excellent condition, along with the kevlar xlite seat and yeti grips all fitted by the owner upon purchase!
And it is all in amazing condition, I thought my marin rift zone was in good wrap till I stumbled on this one lol!

Tartybikes have a good selection of special compound and CNC backed pads if you fancy parting out with some new ones.

Usually a quick rub with sandpaper works fine. If you can find the mixed red / black Magura pads they seem to work best as an overall compromise for UK conditions.

Re:

Are you sure the blocks aren't actually okay spud, as brand new standard compound ones are rock hard anyway? never tried softer ones...
