As is Macretro tradition, it's time to think about some Festive Frolicking. Obviously this year is going to be a bit different, but the idea is still the same, to raise you from your mince pie and sweet sherry induced coma and escape the family/in laws/tv repeats (delete as applicable) for a few hours.

This years "ride" will take place on Tuesday 29th December, at a time and place or your own choosing. Yes, this year you won't have to hang about in the cold waiting for Robmac to show up, even though he lives the closest to the meeting point. Our area is so big that we pretty much cover every level of the Scottish tier system, so I doubt it will be a group ride for any of us. If you are allowed to meet with friends then great, if not then just get out on your own knowing that somewhere else in the country there will be a fellow rider doing the same.

I will drag my sorry self out into the woods of Midlothian and prove categorically that my ability to ride off road has become as bad as this nations current status. Mind you it'll remind me off my youth when starting out off roading as in falling off was a frequent joy :)

Re:

Anyone else use Zwift? We could "virtually " meet up for a "Virtual Festive Frolick" ride, drink as much Sherry as you like!

Otherwise, it would be cool if we all posted photos of our respective rides on this thread to share our Frolics with the rest of the Macretro clan .

Re:

Just a wee bump to remind you to post a pic of your ride tomorrow. Retro preferred but if you’re too precious to get your NOS valve caps dirty then modern, road, even e bikes all welcome.

Re:

It might be an indoor ride after work for me, but I'll post a screenshot for you all

Roads and paths here are treacherously icy today, and it doesn't look like it'll thaw before it freezes again this evening.
Might be ok on my fat tyre mtb , will have to see later...

So the last few days here have been cold, frosty but most importantly dry. Predictably, cue 8pm last night and the rain pished down, then the skies cleared, then it snowed, then the skies cleared again. 8 am this morning had to take the wee man to nursery and the village was like a skating rink. Even the A92 dual carriageway hadn't been cleared nevermind the back road from my house to the trails. Got home from dropping him off and did the only sensible thing and returned to the kettle for a second cup of tea. By the time that was done, the sun had actually risen and it was into my riding clothes and off to the garage. Being a good retro loving boy, out came the pristine clean STS. Ok, did it buggery. Today was a day for wide, soft compound tubeless tyres, flat pedals and a disk brakes not 15 year old brick hard Velociraptors and being clipped in with my saddle 8 inches above my 500mm bars. Fell free to slag me off, but after some of my near misses, I'm convinced I'd still be lying upside down in a ditch trying to get unclipped from frozen spds.

Have been out the last two days and the legs were feeling tired, so it was just a 10 miler up and round my local loop, but great fun crunching through the snow and frozen puddles. TBH if I hadn't designated today as Festive Frolic day, I probably wouldn't have ventured out but I'm so glad I did. Hope some of you got out as well and looking forward to your photos.

Long way but made it, virtually :xmas-big-grin:

Ordered some snow for today to give the place a Scottish feel. Great fun :xmas-cool:

Re:

Did a local 8mile loop from my house round the local farm tracks and up over hill of beath hill.

Brings back lots of memories, this was our playground as a bairn.

Everywhere had a nice covering of snow which made it a bit more fun than usual plus the weather was stunning.

Hope everyone had a good one.
