Actually, I think this brake came up in conversation yesterday at GT. Being the noob that I am, I had no idea disks went that far back (and even pre 90s if I remember right).

How does it perform? It looks pretty chunky - good to see it being used though.

with 4 finger levers it performs much better than canti's - you also are less inclined to go over the bars in a sudden stop - I have done long endo semi-skids instead 3 or 4 feet in some cases. It seems to work better in the wet which I find odd. the big draw back if you can't tell is the weight - there is a lot of it.

Shimano came up with disc brakes as a form of drag brake for tandems in the 1970's. Can't of been great otherwise more of them would have been seen.

While we're on the subject of questionable bikes, I spotted this Emelle on ebay last night.

The groupset looked half decent and bike is in pretty good nick, so I did a quick forum search for some info on them - you had listed the Emelle Cortina as one of your B-list bikes - if it is a Cortina, here's your chance, although 21" is still probably a bit small for you?
