After partaking of the epic 'Gypsy Glen' trip I then went out again with a mixed ability group around the Pentlands on Sunday. Strangely I was not too bad fitness wise. First up one of the climbs on my ton weight Diamond Back with Bullmoose bars no less. Admittedly I was last up the second climb, tiring a bit by then. Really pleased though when I chased 2 full sus riding group members down a long fast trail on my rigid bike, caught up and overtook but then hit rocks which ejected my water bottle which I had to retrieve
One guy starting getting all enthusiastic about BITD and all the classic old school kit he still has so of course I advertised our fine site, he might pay a visit. Guess what, he's a fifer, that fine repository for retrobike hoarders we all love
I suspect the easy way of shifting your kit in this day and age is to employ someone else to drive it between stop off points on your route. Technology may have improved as per kit but the only way to easily carry it is to have less of it same as its ever been.
Must remember adventure show though
Kaiser and I have done the easier summer version. Same course just no snow. Its a great trail but I'd be scared witless in mid winter. My boss's son does the winter one every year with a team, he's superfit though. Its a proper challenge but annoyingly kids do it and they are way better than me
I went up a couple of years ago to marshall for the winter one Postponed due to bad weather ice and high winds, which also rendered the campsite unuseable
Went up a couple of munros insted the following day.
However I don't fancy the race itself as the frequent sleep interruption would do me in
