MacRetro chat and rides thread

According to the FC website Laggan is closed just now due to storm damage so not one for the current holiday period.

laggan is shite , especially considering its about 200 bloody miles away
if you can fit it into a week or so taking in the other stuff further north
its okay , but ben brachie (?) learnie red rocks and the moray monsters
are far better ,even the stuff round rothiemurcus is better than laggan

fit laggan into your TUB fort william weekend

it really isn't worth the miles tho i have heard the newer black stuff is properly technical

So got my heart rate watch working and out on the turbo but no clue as to what to do, anyone use one to train, top tips, the ken?

Not used a HRT for years gaz, My turbo work is really just to keep pedalling - not training as such, not been on my real bike for 3 weeks. I go on the turbo with planet rock on the radio, when the music is fast I pedal faster that is about it. Rob is right - it is boring as **** but needs must, never done more than 30mins at a time.

Went with kaiser's suggestion last night, 35 mins at 5 mins breakneck 160 bpm, 5 mins at more sedate 150, alternating. I am looking to try and build up the high heart rate times and keep the sessions short- albeit will get the telly in the garage and go for the odd long easier session just to mix it up. It is boring and my top band is muse, mix of medium, fast and very fast tunes.

gaz running 150/160 bpm is in the fat burn zone , flat out will be in the 190/200 rate (depending on age and bmi , theres plenty of ways to find these base numbers)
the best measure of how well your doing is the recovery time
find your resting heart rate 60/70 or so
then your general moving about rate around 100
after say 15 mins at your anerobic zone 150/160 then slow down gradually to say 120 bpm ,check the time it takes ,the quicker the better

so you need to know your thershold numbers resting moving and arobic and anerobic and finally redline bpm numbers
relate these to the rpm your pedaling at
you also need to know recovery times

please look for stuff on the net for "expert" info

found this for a better decription of the above

use your tablet and you tube on bike footage clips to make it a bit less boring
