MacRetro chat and rides thread

I'm just guessing I need 58 cm. That compact/starndard c-c and effective sizes gives me headache.

Aye, sit on them and take for an extended ride. My back starts hurting after about 10 miles on Kaiser's Allez (54cm compact) too, but it doesn't feel cramped to sit on - a longer stem fitted and a bit of layback on the seatpost obviously help there.

Dodgy back definitely doesn't help though, but it would be interesting to try something a bit more stretched out and see if my back isn't quite as bad.

Rado compact or not the sizing stays the same. Its all effective sizing. For reference the Allez I have is 54, the CX bike you rode is 56 and the Planet X is a medium. I'd look up the geometry of the Cube as you rode it for a while and try to remember what you thought. Use that geo as a base line.

I've enjoyed ride on your 56 Focus, however a bit longer tt could be spot on. Thanks for clarify.

That did have a slightly shorter top tube than normal, crossers are a wee bit more upright so a straight 56 might work.

Idea for some runs and that is sections of the Southern Upland Way.
Very useful website mentioning bothies and welcoming mtb'ers.. Most of the way can be done by bike and they're working on improving bike access.

Sanquhar to Wanlockhead could be a good one for colder months when boggy ground is frozen as its a shorter section and there is a modern pub that does food in Wanlockhead plus train station shops etc in Sanquhar.

I've been in loose negotiations for a nice Fausto Coppi road frame for a while but the owner was in Canada so it kind of stalled. He got back today and the bugger has sold it. To be fair it was for twice what I offered him for it.
