MacRetro chat and rides thread

I have a bomber z4 "flylight air" from 2000 on my hardtail. Not sure if it could be considered lightweight but it's 80mm travel, v and disc mounts and I prefer it to my more modern rebas (only other air fork I have to compare it too).

Otherwise maybe something from pace, or sids?

Thats the plan TK but funds are increasingly tight these days. I hope to have a Strangelove if Si's enterprise takes off. Problem is my idea of my perfect bike might be so odd that no bike builder with a reputation to uphold would touch the project with a barge pole. I however feel I shouldn't have to compromise for the builders sake, I want what I want, not what they think I should have ;)

I think I have the bike for you Velo....

Its a 650b wheeled bike which I've christened 'Roughstuff'.
It's a multi purpose bike. A bit like the old Jack Taylor bikes built in the 70s. High at the front, shortish wheelbase, lots of standover etc. Pretty compliant but with an oversize downtube for front end stiffness. It runs 1.5 tyres but with clearance to go larger and still have room for clarts.
Its a do it all bike. Works on singletrack, fast rolling on tarmac and has braze ons for full touring gear such as racks and mudguards. It runs a 440mm rigid fork but will take a suss fork although I would run rigid.

I did a mock up on BikeCad Pro last night to give you an idea. Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics- I haven't learnt how to do screen shots and it was late and I was too tired to learn.

Hope you like it

Funky Si, although I'd have to go all the way and give Velo a '29er - if ever there was a man to make those big wheels look in proportion...

I think BikeCad allows you to directly export the design as a graphics file (export as .PNG or .JPG)?

Anyway, to screen cap:

1. Look for the key marked 'prt sc' on your keyboard (typically top left hand side). If you are on a laptop, chances you will also need to press the key marked 'fn' as well.

2. Once you've pressed 'prt sc' / 'fn', you have a screencap in memory.

3. Open up Paint (or whatever graphics program you use) - and paste the screen cap into the program ('Ctrl' and 'V' keys to paste, or Edit/Paste from the menu).

Si I'd think about changing the model name a bit not to infringe on copy right (Roberts) and call it "Rough Love" it'll sell like hot cakes. Just be carefull where you advertise it though

.

Its just a working title. I was thinking of giving the threebase models 'kinky' names to tie in with Strange and Love. That one could be called the 'Cross Dresser'

Spy shots of frame number two going up on the Strangelove thread in a moment.

Thats absolutely stunning Si

Unfortunately based on the frankenbike i've just built to help my painful neck issue you'd have to build me such a weird gate of a bike you'd need a step ladder to weld the top of the frame.

My frankenbike is possibly the weirdest sit up and beg comfort mtb ever created. The bars are 4 feet above the ground and about 5 inches higher than the seat. However it is growing on me and its surprisingly comfortable. Coming to a retromeet sometime soonish
