If the threaded steerer isn't long enough, don't see why can just use a steerer extender on top, which is similar to the ahead quill adapter, but leaves you with a starnut equivalent that you can use to tension the headset. Note that you can only fit an extender to a steel steerer, alu steerers are wider and they won't fit.

The first review on that is brilliant...

Im forever having to do things to the wife and her bike!!This time apreantly after noticing she had steering issues she said it was because i needed a bigger steerer.Ive bought this and when i went to fit it into the hole it was too big? I cant please this woman she wants it larger to make her riding more pleasureable and it doesnt fit the hole she wants me to ram this damn thing into. i think i might buy a new bloody wife, this one costs too much.

The fork needs to be 390 a-c and Ahead P2 at that size are rare, I've been watching the bay for months, mostly 410 and up :( the bike is perfectly balanced as it is and I don't want to change that.

No they don't really need to be P2 but I do like that shape - not a curved rake, nice even tubes and a good blend to the drop outs.

On-one or trials forks would be fine but I don't want to spoil the look of the bike so I am being quite fussy. Problem solver spacer sounds good.

I have roughly 6 more weeks to get it sorted :)

Cycled out to Clachan of Campsie,to have my wheels checked for trueness and to check everything else was in order.
Turns out both needed redishing ,a few nipples replaced and a wee flat removed from the front. All tasks completed by Big Al personally
Needless to say theyre spot on and unlikely to fold bouncing down through Skye on my rigid forks.
3 cans of IrnBru and 2 slabs of Victor James tablet plus the sorting of the wheels
Total bill=£10

Cycled back but now both knees hurt like hell :? On the inside about near the bone just beside the hamstrings. :? Completely new one on me  something else to hurt

Im riding flat pedals, quite small wellgo c27's :?,but could easily be saddle height.
Between yesterdays 4h in the saddle and todays 4h it is the most i have ridden on the new bike[mystery Ti]Shame im really suffering for it,i thought i was in better condition than that :?

Any ideas :? im going to up the saddle 1/2" and set it a little forward. :? but i dont want a repeat of this pain [ im delicate]So if this sounds familiar to someone please pipe up :)

Still on for Skye though :D

Dyna,

This is my seat height standard operating procedure.

Sit on seat and place heel on pedal at maximum reach from seat. Your leg should be straight with the knee locked. Thus when you move the ball of your foot to the pedal your leg should be slightly flexed, the ideal for efficient cycling. Thus adjust seat upward until the above situation occurs ;)

As for wheel fixing and truing, my pal will build or true them for nothing purely because he enjoys wheel building as a hobby. All it costs me is parts plus today I got a can of irn bru when I was visiting, win win situation for me :D

Hope you sort your cycling aches, it can be annoying ;)

I normally sit on the saddle and have my tip toes on the ground, much the same thing but i'll give your method a go :?
Nice to have a pal that can build wheels  Big Al has said he reckons i'd be quite good at building them due to my attention to detail. So this summer i intend to spend a fair amount of time in his shop ,learning how to build and true the bloody things

It is :D and its a nice ride out there too.Theres an old path along a disused railway that jut about takes you there from kirky:?

I bet he looks the same as he did back then

Not short of a spoke or two

Dyna,

Tip toe method does not work for mtb's due to bottom bracket height. A correctly set up mtb will not allow both of your feet to touch the ground similtaneously. Riding an incorrectly set up mtb due to the strains of off road riding will knacker your knees eventually

You do strike me as a wheel builder type, a fastidious attention to detail mind is required plus patience. I dont have that mindset and thus previous wheel build attempts have resulted in much swearing and major wobbles

Skye was going to be like that but we got all soft and are using a campsite. I'd be interested in any off the beaten track adventure. Only thing left to get is the canvas - I've got lightweight everything else now.
