plough your own furrow my man, just make sure the spindle on the BB is the right length fir yer chain line- got a shimano 600 rear der (the one that was on the gazelle) if you want it to? gratis

ZZ also make sure the BB square taper axle is Campag compatable. I dont think Campag use JIS square taper BB axles especially not on older cranks. They use slightly different ones with a slightly different taper, getting it wrong can cause problems. Consult the roady section, they'll keep you right ;)

Correct and they have a bigger BCD making fitting decent size rings impossible.

Aye, the ones I was looking at used 116 BCD rings

Sounds like I need to do further investigation on the square taper thing... Sheldon reckoned you could get away with JIS vs ISO, but if Campy are using something else...

I've got a few crank irons in the fire, we'll see how it works out.

Oh aye Gazz, thanks for the offer, but single speed for the winter I think.

I reckon a topline or a cooks look the best with skinny tubed bikes

I love the looks of them both, but '£ cha-ching $' plus 'fragile' for a bike I really intend to be a proper rider.

And that look is kind of what's attracting me to the older road cranks with their narrower arms.

That's why I like period/original spec builds you just follow the catalogue spec, easy peessie.

Put the feelers out for a Euclid mt bike specific crankset, strong money but does look different and agree cooks look very nice but as you say no very practical.

Aye, whole group is a real beauty but rare and pricey. Try to find any MTB campy cranks, my fav is Record OR. Alternatively, triple road cranks may work? You're quiet serious about this FAT, I had a plan to build her as a hack/training bike

your first fat should always be special no need to skimp I say but agree getting a groupset would be expensive and might take a wee while.
