MacRetro chat and rides thread

2011 outings suggestions, mibee a wee bit premature but any ideas to bounce around? Anything we didn't do this year? Any cross border sorties?

arran should be a staple IMHO and another bothy trip would be great- my highlight so far this year, also dunkeld winter wonderland with a different route? Laggan, wolftraxx aswell as a retro road bash to? Not to fussed about down south but one of the big ones might be one to agree on and go on mass?

Aye Dunkers should be a regualer and the Arran trip as well as the Glentress in the summer. What do you think of the GT meet in October? What about having it in the summer again? The C2C could be the bothy/overnighter? Though numberswise a few could be on the cards, would you say the numbers you had was perfect?

yeah 1 or 2 more at a push any more and you could struggle in a smallish bothy but if it was mid-week then you could take more I suppose ;)

I like the idea of picking a 'darn sarf' ride to hit en masse. Also want to get back to Arran, that was a magical day.

Personally, I'm looking to do some big country stuff next year. The Beinn a Ghlo / Glen Tilt run seems to be pretty well regarded - anybody done it? Any thoughts?

Also does anyone have a copy of the Kenny Wilson 'Mountainbike Scotland' book? Out of print, but meant to have some good routes?

You talking the Big C2C? I thought Dingwall - Ullapool was do-able in a day, then back the next after 'refuelling' in Ullapool.

Dunkeld could be held on the over side of the a9 - we could even incorporate bits of the downhill course there, epic riding available but it is the less sunny side of the hills. Or I could change the route on the Ordie side as we do tend to do the easy way up.

GT in the summer is a good idea.

I have also found a bothy near Atholl that is really nice (and biggish) and involves some epic top of the hills riding with fast retro landy track downhills.

Is anyone holding distant thoughts of going to OWMTB next year in Marin? I've priced flights - got permission from the wife as long as I save for it separately to our normal holiday fund :)

If it remains unobtainable I will certainly do a southern venture. Mayhem is a laugh and BDW and Peaks look like the other contenders.

I can go, but it needs to be in the school holidays and make it a family trip.
