MacRetro chat and rides thread

Thats a maybe Si ;)

I find the 'Vagabonds' a tad confusing, they dont seem to be able to commit to an exact date in any given month or route unlike all the other groups. Also the complete lack of internet presence in this day and age makes me fear it'll be a load of fossils in tweeds with a young people today attitude
I've had enough of that way of thinking from the Lothian DA of the CTC.

I'll need more info than merely Borders February :?

I've been interested in the RSF too for a while but I read an article on the site where the writer mentions his love for his free rail pass  Is it just old guys in tweed?

Don't know but I think I was on one of their routes today, north end Loch Etive, never pushed/carried a bike so much before

Never seen so many bits of dismembered deer at the trackside either

That was a tough day. Recouperting.

Dont mind looking the part, I've got the lugged steel road/tour bike and carradice saddlebag. Just dont go for the attitude of the older biking fraternity.

The local veterans of the CTC believe that riding two abreast on any road they choose despite new official CTC policy that you ride single file in traffic is how they will ride and to hell with how much road rage and traffic jams they cause. They also believe that all day on the bike midweek is the sensible time to organise runs despite the fact us younger folk still have to work through the week and often have family committments. A friend and I in the early 2000's organised and lead our own rides under the CTC banner to ensure the modern rider could do weekend runs at a sensible pace and range and not annoy the rest of the road users.

We had one elderly member who was on the committee who vetoed any proposal that would change the way things were done. This was despite the fact he was in his late 80's and had been blind and thus by default a non cyclist for at least 20 years

I will not take well to the RSF if they're anything like that despite my old fashioned retro standpoint as perceived by you lot

Whats the Scottish contingency like? Half a dozen guys or quite a few? My interest was piqued by a Singletrack article, very well written and would surely draw some new members, I wondered if that was coming through yet or at all.

John has put up the AEC poll, good luck guys - remember it is not a popularity contest - as evident from the contestants :)

Ask yourself who is going to push the Macretro agenda the furthest?
Who will attend and organise the most meets?
Who will raise the profile of Macretro the highest?
Who will it be more fun for Gazz to slag off?
And who can take that slagging the without cracking?
