If I remember right, DaveDH reckoned the Specialized Captains were pretty good for slippy roots, never tried them myself.

Just don't ever buy Schwalbe Hardclimbers, no matter how attractive the price may seem.

You can get the XC Pros with red, blue or yellow sidewall stripe (no pink, alas).

I quite like the Kenda Nevegals too, the basic non-sticky compound one seems like a pretty good allrounder - the 2.1s are a wee bit wider than you'd expect though. I'm running one up front on my Hardrock with an IRC Piranha Pro on the back, and it's quite a good combination.

Agree with mike, I have a set and they are great alrounders. Quite a retro feel too.
