MacRetro chat and rides thread

Began throwing the Rockhopper together last night...

I'm a wee bit annoyed, since I must have measured some of the decals wrong... The 'Rockhopper' on downtube is slightly too short, whereas the decal on the seat tube is a bit big (and I put it on squint too, which didn't help). Also my brake levers were the wrong the shade of blue, so they are out as well... And the canvas on the Smoke/Dart tyres really isn't up to actually being ridden, so back into the man cave they go :?

Anyway, I'll need a new BB (68, I thought it was 73 and I could just re-use the Stumpy's). Also thinking about getting a new u-brake for it, the existing one is a bit scraped...

wow that looks impressive- It is frustrating when you are kind of winging it and learning as you go along but I've found it to be the case with most retro builds, you learn to embrace the setbacks makes you love the bike more- looks great.

I have a old stylee bottom bracket you can have the ones with the wee balls an that- give me a shout if you need it.

Cheers Gazz, aye definitely a case of live and learn.

I've still got the auld loose baws BB off it, I may yet re-use that - need to give it a clean and inspect the bearing surfaces.

Edit: Just looked at POTM - Unibomber looking very fine indeed.

Nice work ZZ  I really reckon you should have captured all this in a thread. Some top resto going on by the looks of it

Any more pics really liking the look of this bike what year is it 1990?

Hi troops :) , the Rockhopper is looking great ZZ

Not been on here all week as the computer spat the dummy out last Sunday :x , spent ages on the phone to AOL with not a lot of success, will maybe try and get a computer guy out over the weekend, using my Mums lap top for now

Got the Zaskar done though :D, stickers are on and its looking great, going to try and get out on for a bit it over the weekend.

You got a real one now kaiser?

Show us a picture when your all sorted on the computer front JH.

Had a spin on the unibomber tonight and it is pretty good, no yo but pretty stable over the rough stuff, came to the conclusion that the Mary bars make all the difference for comfort so the on-one is safe for now.

yeah mikee totally agree, shame they just do not look right on any of my retro bikes or would have them on every bike- kaiser has the love handles and they do a similar job albeit in a more stylish and expensive fashion, have you tried any other bendy bars that you rate?
