Ok..... so I had a wee run out on the retro road machine this morning and I'm now kind of conflicted.

I have an open mind about this roadie malarkey and I admit it is a very quiet, fast, clean and to my surprise very comfy ride but alas I did not really get into it :? . I was not clipped in so this was not adding to the experience and the subtle braking will take a bit of getting used however not sure I'll ever get the road bug.

Going to force myself out a few more times to give it a good shot but the bike might become one of my many passed over bitches, shame cause when she is cleaned up, it is a really beautiful machine.

Should I be a bit more patient? Think I like getting muddy to much and fat tyres are a good excuse when you are going to slow

 give it more time, the enjoyment(?) will come from epics and pain  to be fair retro road bikes IMO should be more on the collectors side of the street.

dont know what you mean by decent, is there such a thing with any macretro rider?

look at the air he gets on those doubles

Sitting in my Kitchen at present is a 1970's falcon 10 speed racer, drop bars, 27x1.25 tyres the lot in a fetching shade of metallic blue and rust.

Bought it to cheer me up after I discovered the price a a wheel build for my other roadbike project. The Falcon as a complete bike from the Bikestation was cheaper

Highlights are a TA chainset, Shimano 600 rear mech, Campagnola front mech, Suntour Power shifters, GB stem. Upgrades at a later date may include 27x1.125 tyres, dual pivot caliper brakes and maybe SPD's.

Pictures later !

Keep persevering Gaz, when your out on a group ride and we start picking up the speed, the odd competetive sprint, you'll start to see what its all about. ;)

no doubt your right velo and Mr K, I always thought road riding was a group thing anyway, we should get a smallish run out- since you have a new toy anyway and I kind of agree with you kaiser on the vintage garage queen thing but will ride it for a while before contemplating blinging up and hinging up (poet and I didn't know it! )

good luck with the bings lads

going to drum on monday if anyone wants to pull a sickie?

Went to see Gregory's Girl at Bo'ness Hippodrome tonight. God, that took me back. Bloody 13 year old daughter thought it was 'funny sometimes' but didn't get it. Talk about generation gap

'Shite, that was Lacrosse.'

And mmmm, Clare Grogan.
