Good idea ZZ batter it out at the xmas bash. And I admire your confidence Si but a year of arranging interesting, well-advertised, macretro rides have yielded very little interest from our southern brethren so not convinced this will change- better to arrange a ride that suits the folk that actually turn up.
On a different subject the dale will be going up for sale in the next few days so first refusal to the macretro massive (and special price) pm me if you fancy it.

But they have been just that Gaz- MacRetro rides.
There will be framework in place before the year out in which to place rides in front of a larger audience. The AEC's will be working together within this framework to promote more inter area involvement. People will not travel up for every ride (and there have been many great Mac rides this year)granted, but we are talking about your stand-alone blue riband event here- the big annual event.
Don't be disheartened before you begin. Put the work in and let the AECs do their bit and you will get a great well supported event- I promise

Since my last post and a few strong mugs of tea plus the knowledge that my impending redundancy has been put off by more funding I'm feeling more positive.
I reckon we go for in or near Glentress in June 2010 as there is loads of riding including secret single track Dave and I are scouting out. There appears to be wooden igloo things now at Glentress and I know of a newish bunkhouse nearby. A campsite and the Traquair brewery are at Inners and two more campsites and numerous accomodation types exist at Peebles. Also I can administer this venue quite easily as its close to me.
I shall email the forestry commision and the Hub as regards this idea.
Event ideas include the bike tossing, bicycle shinty (bike polo with less rules I reckon), a mini trials comp and some hill climb and DH comps. A nearby pub would be useful though.

You will do a cracking job Velo, just stop being so negative toward yoursel. Just like that slope in Inners that you would not ride down, once you had got your head around it you did it in style.
i have leant much over the last year and in particular after the Big Weekender- I am always here to help out if need be. You are a much cleverer bloke than me. Just stop with the negative vibes and you and the guys will pull off a cracking event.

Velo to cut to the chase propose yer plan someone will second it and nominate volunteers You don't need to do it all yourself but can have the executive power. Nice call on the DH, this could be a crowd puller, incorporate a retro downhill bit with dave sussing out a course. Think The Ken was familiar with bits too, this was mooted a few times and garnered alot of interest. Would mibee even build summat for it.
