MacRetro chat and rides thread

When you consider how much dentistry costs these days I would be wary of 'cheap' unbranded carbon forks on eBay.

^ What that man said! Value for money AND DIY dentistry? What Scotsman could resist?

I didn't do a huge amount of research before I bought them, but some of the forum posts I read indicated that these were rebadged by some of the big manufacturers (White Bros, SASO?) - of course, I read it on the intarwebs, so it must be true. I really must try them with a nice fat tyre up front.

Already own a set of rigid alloy forks, when fitted I cannot tell if they're stiffer than steel and thus suspect would notice no improvement with carbon either. I'll stick with steel as its cheap and I'm mean

As for GT's I am now believing more in this triple triangle bit based on the sheer number of useable second hand frames that seem to be everywhere on this site/ebay/other. What could Kaiser possibly be up to with another GT based on the eye rolling he already gets everytime he shows up on his Karakorum yet again

Old bikes, addictive or what

nah...... people got them home and rode them once realised they were crap and looked rubbish too, then went and bought a proper bike, so consigning the unused gt to the shed, hence there abundance now

You are indeed correct, in fact in my research I came across an Aaron just about to buy some. The research indicates that exotic are the manufacturers badging but the also make white bros, pace, superstar, on one, bontrager and some others. There are slight differences but I believe they are the same manufacturer.

FWIW Si I did read a thread on the Pace carbon jobs where the legs sheared off, as mentioned facial surgery and a deaf ear from Pace  This was from a lifelong Pace fan.

I think the idea V isn't that its apparent but maybe after a long ride the fatigue in the wrists isn't as bad. Steel is heavy and comfy, allot light and stiff and carbon can be light and compliant. Though I'm disinclined to group all carbon together.
