Forks have been fine - was maybe expecting them to take a bit more sting out of the trail, ....I think they're over 800g, so it's not just the rider that's been on the pies.

Should probably have went with another sus fork tbh.

What forks are these ZZ? - 800g sounds reasonably light and very light if it is a sus fork.

Hi TK nah they're not sus, I meant I should have put another sus fork on after killing my T2s.

These are the carbon rigid forks that you see on ebay - marked 'exotic' - 80-odd quid a pop. Funny you mention the DirectDrive forks, I'd have probably been just as well served by putting the originals back on :roll:

I was looking for forks for the 29er, either steel Salsa ones or for the same money the exotics.

If it were me, I'd go with the Salsa steel fork (Cromoto Grande, right?). Looks better (especially since removing the stickers from the carbon forks is non-trivial), and probably feels a bit better on the trail too. Doesn't look like much of a weight penalty either (just over 1kg).

I think your right, CroMoto was always on the cards but I started looking at the exotics last night. They do have some favourable reviews, for Scottish terrain I guess I'd like the assurance of steel. Build isn't uber flyweight either though I didn't want to unnecessarily add extra.

You can get a 29er wheel with a 2.4 tyre in a 440mm RC31 Carbon fork guys. Plenty about too. Doesn't bugger up geometry either on a 26 frame. I'm going to try one on the Cotic soon.

Carbon forks, big tyres and Ti bars are a real comfy combo. I prefer it to suss as you get much sharper tracking and it doesn't dive into drops under braking. Try it??

Its for a 29er and the A-C has to be around 465mm. I'm going for the steel though, the Salsa is an OX platinum so I 'm hoping it'll take out a bit of sting.

Should be though there is a high number of carbon converts over on MTBR. But yeah will be going for 2.4 racing ralphs.

There are some rather nice carbon forks with carbon crown and forward rake that look rather old school and nice on ebay at regular intervals, around the £75 mark. Not the Pace style like the exotics, more like a 26" wheeled CX fork. Also Van Nicholas have some very nice alloy rigid forks that would not look out of place on a Retro steed but probably offer no shock absorbance at all :shock:
