MacRetro chat and rides thread

Jimi I can give you the stand or if push came to shove would have a go myself.

i can build your wheels jimmi if you have the spokes . i no longer have a jig so they'd only be 95% true and then you could take them to your lbs to get trued for alot less than £112.....

:D :D :D

Gazz - any chance you could pick up pair of those panaracer xc's for me, local Halfords devoid of anything approaching a decent deal. Let me know - I can paypal over the money and perhaps rustle up a virtual Star bar ;)

Good run up the Pentlands the day, well covered in mud and sheep shit by the end of it. Paced myself reasonably well, and managed almost 4 hours although nowhere near a race pace and I didn't have much left in the tank by the end. Weird, my arms were hurting more than my legs when I got back to the car. Apart from the wind, weather was brilliant. Burns and runoffs in full spate after all the rain, and it's really muddy in places, took me a while to get into the groove, was really a bit too tentative at first, but was digging it at the end. A good use of 1 days annual leave I reckon.

So what's the verdict on those waterproof socks? Anyone use them? Feet were soaking pretty early on, and those waterproof bootee things wouldn't have helped much either, since the water just comes battering in through the holes in the soles for the SPDs.

Looking forward to Sunday, legs and arms should be halfway normal feeling by then... Shall be taking it easy tomorrow with an Edinburgh festival day out with the offspring.

got them in ma garage- even better was I spotted a couple of kevlar ones in the back, 100g heavier but should be worth it for the additional protection. Would have gotten a pair myself but need to be frugle

will pm you my paypal details.

also selling a pair of http://www.firthcycles.com/wheels-tyres ... -90.TYR120 for £15 which seemed pretty cheap too- good for you road merchants.

Kaiser- kids just dissappeared off with the in laws so I have 3 hours, off to find some trails round darvel :D however will need to raincheck drum tomorrow :( , have a good one anyway.

sunshine here I come!

Cheer's for the recomendations and the offers of help guy's ;) , i will get around to trying building wheels someday but lack of time and patience just now means i need to give the job to someone else.

With other projects i've been able to buy good second hand wheels but with this thing using whacky hubs that wasn't an option, closest complete wheels i could find anywhere were "cruiser wheels" with a geared coaster hub and a plain front hub, couldnt find a decent drum brake front wheel.

Popped into the place in Johnstone thismorning, the guy quoted around £60 for the pair, that's using double butted spokes, seems reasonable, i've to phone him back later though once he's checked he's got the spokes in stock so i'll see how it goes.

I've been watching that DBS for months but cannot bring myself to buy it. Think it would be best in the hands of a collector who would look after it as I'll not look after it well enough

My Raleigh is ready for the hills and I'm now preparing my wet weather kit :lol

Mark, you hinted at coming to the pentlands this Sunday, we'd love to see you and you could talk wheel builds with Big Eck, I've seen a set of snowflakes he built himself

Result! Cheers Gazz, money sent. Hope you had a good ride, weather was georgeous through here again, need a few more like today before autumn settles in.

OK.
Bit of a gamble for tomorrow.
Spent the last few days studying the atlantic pressure chart on the old BBC and I reckon it wont rain heavily until after noon.
I dont have a wet suit anyway (being a girls blouse I dont often venture out into the wet stuff).
So I'll come as I would for a 20 mins out of the house ride.

Correct me if i'm wrong but its only a 6 1/2 mile gentle poodle about on flat and sumptuous green stuff, occasionally stopping for summer picnics and the delicate petting of fluffy dogs.

If it rains I'm sure i'll live.

Dave.
