MacRetro chat and rides thread

Might be joining your shonky old road bike club. Customer brought his modern Giant in for a new BB this morning and offered me his old road bike. Its a lugged Reynolds custom frame from local builder Denton cycles (some connection with Joe Waugh and Dave Yates there I think) that he bought about 25 years ago. I havn't seen it yet but he's the same size as me so should fit and it has full Shimano kit on it. Its hardly been riden by the sound of things so might be a goer.

One question- are roadies still allowed to wear baggies or must I now have my nuts on display?? :? Is the Rapha(?) look any better?

Si

Sweet :D and no you don't need to wear lycra but it is more comfy. Baggies can chafe and will flap about annoyingly in the wind.If you up the distance tighter stuff will make alot of difference to your ride experience. And the Rapha stuff is marmite extremis, I like it, really well made and thought out.

Still to come up with a proper shonky old racer as the BSA is more tourist/commuter style. As usual cost is the issue but I'm keeping my eyes peeled. I see a Roady McRetro meet happening this winter

Guy has just brought the bike round. Its very tidy and he still has the original drops, levers and shifters. Must be at least 35 years old. it was 3rd hand when he bought it 22 years ago.

Whatcha think, worth a punt?

Sorry about the double posts feckin itouch however I would advise against all this road nonsense si it is a pointless road to social siuicide if you as me, even lance isn't cool on one of them there thin tyred abominations.

Don't say you havnt been warned.

Nice bike Si, worth a punt and the flat bar look is easier to get on with if your not a drop bar afficionado. I've buit my BSA up in a simlar style :D

Can't see Gaz's objections, he dresses like a roady in all that lycra he sports and he likes to go fast, some folk are weird

Gazz your a racerist

Si that looks cool, but I have been bitten by the retro road bug lately. How much is it going for? At the end of the day having a road bike handy is always good for a change.
