. whats stopping you doing it yourself .

Lack of time, patience and confidence i think, besides i've always thought wheel building like plumbing and electrics on a house is one of those jobs best left to someone else.

Saying that it'd be a very handy skill to have, may make the effort eventually, just want things done with the minimum of fuss for now, even if i need to pay for it.

i wouldnt say its down to where the place is its whos doing it . whats stopping you doing it yourself . once you have the spoke length worked out lacing is easy and getting tension/true is just methodology .

I can give you my tools if you'd like to try it yourself? I'm not one for the blanket scorn thrown over Halfords but I can only imagine their not too experienced at it. Its a fairly robust wheel your building so not to difficult.

It is very handy and the satisfaction is right up there.

Going back to that then  theres a place in Stirling thats meant to be the bawz, could maybe advise you on spoke choice and using the coatser hub etc.

Ah, right

Bound to be decent wheel builder in Glasgow, I can think of 5 bike shops I'd trust to build a good set of wheels in Edinburgh without thinking deeply. Most charge £20 labour per wheel excluding parts.

However, based on my local Halfords I'd only buy factory built wheels off them. I do however have a perfectionist of a friend who can build me a wheel if I really want one, doesn't charge me labour, just does it for fun, good builds too !

i can build wheels to a pretty high standard , i can't 100% true them due to having my jig stolen and not replacing it yet . if you want to jump down with it i can show you the basics ? i'm in broxburn mind (don't laugh)

Whats wrong with Broxburn, Jimi's from Paisley so he can't criticise.

I know, I know Midlothian is full of joke towns too
