so it's friday night, nothing happening, no major bike parts urgently needed, and I keep finding myself wandering over to the "For Sale" forum for no good reason...

Why would you need a reason, good or otherwise? It's where I look first, everyday. Then it's porn.

The first step is admitting you have a problem!

...even further into my electric assist plans I bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261643413799? ... 144wt_1190:
£300 cheaper than the Conv-E system for basically the same thing and it still has a years guarantee and a helpful UK back up company.
Even better I bought on Tuesday morning and took delivery Wednesday afternoon, thats efficiency for you
Hopefully fitting will be easy enough and i might hit the commuting road in a week or so, still got to build the bike its being fitted to, thats where the efficiency falls down

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this Velo. So power is generated through the front wheel, right?

Front wheel is an electric motor that propels the front wheel of your bike from the battery mounted behind the seat. You recharge the battery at home with a smart charger. Range with you pedalling aswell as the motor is about 20-30miles. Means climbing hills becomes considerably less of a chore and you dont arrive at work a sweating, wheezing wreck.

One issue the guy at work has with his cheap ebike is that he can't ride it when it is raining as the battery isn't allowed to get wet - do you have similar restrictions Velo?

Battery is in a sealed box so cant see that as an issue and a electric bike you cant use in the UK's climate seems daft. All connectors in the kit are supposed to be waterproof and supplier suggests a wee bit of silicon sealant if your concerned. i will be doing a few wee mods to make it even more waterproof where practical.

As for the home bodged monster electric mtb, I think it rather cool and I suspect I might get sucked into this sub genre of cycling !
