M735 rear mech slow/stiff return...

Building up a Giant as a baby carrier. Lucky to find Pine Mountain as a donor so all DX and XT. Only issue is very stiff parallelagram (check spelling!). Shifts up through the cassette fine but doesn't return properly.

I've soaked it in degreaser and oiled liberally. Any other ideas? Any way to 'tighten' the spring?

make sure the cable inner and outers are clean, shiny and kink free.

Thanks, I've taken the mech off the bike so definitely a mech and not a cable issue.

dunk it in oil for a while then

buy a new used one (maybe its taken a hit, and the parallelogram bits are now misaligned/tweaked and binding)
