Ok...bear with me!

Ive just got 2 old bikes..mainly cos its my era, and they where cheap...but, which is the bette rone to persist with and invest in?

The m-trax - came with Campagnolo rims on XT hubs...but they can go on the bike of choice i guess...its alos got some "betor b-20" spanish forks on...which are are/oil...but cant find any info about them! I also have the box, and the original forks. stx rc rear mech, rest seems alivio?

Carrera - boggo - acera x mech, alesa rims etc...but... it does seem light for what it is...coming in 3lbs less than the mtrax (26lb vs 29lb)....

the m-trax I thought would be light but Im surprised

So - which would I be best off investing and lightly upgrading? id plump for the raleigh, but, it seems heavy as a base already?

have attached pics...also, the raleigh team panasonic, i love it!... 105 bits and awork in progress but for its age, goes great guns!!

all advice welcome - i paid 20 quid for the carrera and 50 for the m trax, so neither has broke the bank yet....

Re:

M trax all day long , but then again im biased :D
I love mine, i guess the Carrera is Alloy and rigid while the M trax is a chromo / ti mix but with some nice looking marz forks .
Both bargains whatever , the Carrera tyres look to be worth the money on there own :D
Good score .
Cheers Paul

Put the original forks back on the M-Trax, bin the heavy crap crankset and bb setup in favour of something lighter, then get it out on the trails, may still be a little heavier than the cheap mass produced alu carrera thing, but the ride will be sooooo much better, comfier and livelier, do what i did with a similar year and sized carrera, strip it for bits then leave it in the grass in the back garden for nature to reclaim lol!

Re:

I'm going the other way , vortice for me, that bike right there was mt first ally MTB, we did everything together, its also the bike I was racing When I was asked to join the junior cycle team back in they day. They made me ride a crappy giant that weighed more and broke!

I will give you your money back plus post to send it ro me.

Niall.

That's sad to hear :-(
That frame lasted forever, components? not so much lol

Re:

Twas given to me by a guy I know, looked to be a 1998 model kraken with full shimano A (alivio) was in reasonable nick but not worth doing much with or selling on and way too small for me, still got a few bits from it but a lot of main parts were either past it (wheels/hubs) or failed whilst removing bit (drive side crank threads gave up whilst removing the pedal)

I think I might do both up now!! the carrera goes great considering i handed over 20 quid and just rode it off !! it goes perfect! that said, theres somethign about the old m-trax!!.... i suffered from no suspension on that carrera though!....

I think the comments about the m-tax are fair, you will probably get a more lively ride, nice set of pace or judy xc's would go well.

Offer stands on the Carrera, guess its sparked an old flame, in fact I will up it to £25

ta - for what it cost ill probs keep hold of it for now tbh whiel i decide whats best for it!....they do go for next to nowt when they come up on theifbay though (which is rare)...doesnt seem many people want these old horses!!

anyone know how i find the shock measurements for the m-trax?...go on... "take them off and measure things"....!?
