M-trax frame any good?

It's a good price. Got some okay bits on it. It's bonded though- and we've all seen some horror-show stories re old Raleigh bonded frames...

Good strong frames these with nice geometry, not the lightest but can be made better with choice components.
These frames are the Reynolds K2 cromoly type and are brazed, not the titanium/cromo bonded type.
Price seems about right, what's not to like?

No problems then- go for it 👍

Which bits do you consider ok? Do not know parts good from bad myself at this early stage. I just have a vague idea that xt better than lx. I thought alivio, which this one has were the cheaper ones. Not that I mind about that too much if frame is worth the price of entry.

If I remember correctly, the hierarchy of groupsets back then was XTR, XT, LX, STX-RC & STX, Alivio, Acera, Altus. So the Alivio bits are like the XT of the lower end- if that makes sense?! I had those Alivio components on my first MTB and they were pretty bomb proof and nice to use...

Hi, may I ask how you can tell between the bonded and none bonded types? I am just looking and seems this bike looks very similar to another post on here I found of an m-trax which says ti bonded type.

Did they do exactly the same model, just some bonded and some none bonded?

Reaons I came to that is that this thread goes into some great information on the K2 and a user a couple of posts down alludes to the infamous uncoupling of a Ti frame. When I looked up the model they mentioned 1994 M Trax Ti2000 I came to another thread and that looks almost identical, except slightly different colour, to the one in the OP.

So just wanna make absolutely sure it is not a bonder as otherwise it is a nice looking frameset. Particularly like the stem on it.

I see this thread discussing how to tell. The reply with the image seems to clear it up but then the next reply says they could also be lugged and welded. 😄
