Dear All

I am new to Retrobike - these forums look great!

I am shortly to be acquiring an M-Trax 1000s frame (A mid-90s age I believe) Is anyone familiar with the number of gear that is used on the rear? I am guessing it is 7, but is an 8 speed going to fit available width or is there going to be an issue?

I really appreciate your knowledge expertise

P.S - I require a rigid fork for this frame - has anyone got something kicking around, I am really quite flexible about the looks. Hopefully its a straight-legged type, so its nimble for London commuting!

Many thanks

I'm running a mid 90s M-Trax Ti-1000 with 9 speed. Unlike road bikes, MTB hubs didn't get wider, the sprockets just got narrower.

Rear hub spacing

Check if the rear hub spacing on the frame is 130mm or 135mm, some 7 speed hubs were 130mm but if its 135 then you're ok for 8 or 9 speed
