Lycra? Yay, or nay?

Hmm, interesting subject.. I've never worn lycra before, i prefer shorts and a T-shirt (and a windcheater if it's nippy).. S'pose if you're racing it's the done thing but i dunno.. Never raced..

But then again i've never had SPD's neither.. Beartraps and trainers for me.. Am i missing out, fellow bicyclists? ;)

IMHO, Lycra should (if worn) be hidden under 'normal' shorts/ tops.

I'm no racing whippet, I just ride for fun & prefer not to look more stupid than I already do on a bike ;)

When your a bit of a chubby like moi Lycra is a definite no no

Shorts and T shirt for me, Although i do have a Ron Hill jacket for the milder weather.

Lycra for a serious or lengthy ride, baggy cycling shorts and baggy cycling top (ie XXL!) for a casual (or with kids/wife) ride ;)

Lycra is cool. If you feel too chubby to wear tights without shorts, then just cycle greater distances (and bigger hills).

You can't get away from the fact that cotton absorbs fourteen times as much moisture as microfibre and that makes it a seriously bad fabric for making any kind of sports clothing out of - unless you're so fit you never sweat.

Bit of both. Lycra when I'm fit and trying hard, baggies when I'm feeling fat and slow.

Currently baggies :).

I used to be all about the baggies. Then i got a road bike and started riding in Lycra on the road. Then i went back to the woods. You have so much more freedom of mobility in lycra. You don't have to worry about the shorts getting caught on the nose of your seat or any of that crap. However you might look like the Michlen man but lycra is more practicle. However wool is better!!
