love or hate it, Kona Kila-Honzo update 07/03/25 shiny stuff added!

Saving almost a pound per wheel is crazy. How much would a true 26" Kila build weigh? You've gotta be getting close with that big boy. Impressive work, I would love to give it a spin up a hill

I’ll check the numbers on my “stock” ‘98 when I’m back the house, but from memory, it’s pretty close.

@BerthaPog that's a good comparison on weight, i suppose a steel 26" bike, (assume rigid?) 26lbs was pretty reasonable, so to have a bike with 150mm suspension fork, that's usually aimed at much more aggressive riding than xc, as in enduro etc i think that's pretty good weight for the kilahonzo, carbon bits are, frame, rims, bar, i should also add that this weight includes, pedals, bottlecage with a little stash bag, also a ratchet tool in the headtube and a chain tool in the left side of the bar and a tubeless repair kit in the right side of the bar

see pics, so it's a very practical bike, i don;t feel like i have to carry much with me, i have a co2 pump tucked in to the little bag at the bottom of the bottlecage

i took the bike out today, 24 miles, mostly easy gravel tracks, bits of roads to link them, so nothing harsh, obvs i'm still slow as hell after the cancer recovery lack of riding, added to that not much riding due to appalling weather and riding is quite slow at the moment. that said riding this for the first time in a while is nice because i usually ride my steel P7, a bike i love but the Kilahonzo is obvs much lighter, so i definitely went faster today than i did last week on the P7

26.44 is with standard Z3 Lights - which frankly aren’t that light. You can save a chunk by switching to a Z2 alloy steerer. Will have compare a set of Z2s vs the Z3s - at a guess, that would close the gap close to your 28.5.
