Looking for info LH SPECIAL GLOUCESTER

Re:

Thanks for contributing to this thread , I think this frame must have come from that shop or possibly built by them ? I wonder if Hall had a business partner with initial L or maybe did something in collaboration with him being a racer

Re:

Fwiw I too think it is 'north' or 'south' gate on the head badge rather than 'east'.
When Keith says Agrati ends were quite common in the fifties, I imagine he means this in the same sense that Campag. ends were common in the sixties/seventies? They were, but only up beyond a certain level of quality.
If the frame has fancy hand cut lugs, Agrati ends and a curved brake bridge I'd think it is almost certainly 531 and must have been a fairly desirable machine in the fifties, probably top of the range.

Please don't get it powder coated.
.

You could be right and This nugget is crucial- if the TE in gate runs past the six o’clock mark then I agree North or South is more likely due to the additional characters

And 100% agree about preserving what little is still left

Re:

Ha ha ok maybe that’s abit rash ! No powder coating ! Do you think to leave it as a survivor I’m it’s state but try and clean it up?

I didn’t know that about the lugs etc , as I’m new to these older bikes although I’ve had this and the Coventry about 18 months .

Could use the frame and out modern parts on and turn it into a road bike , prob abit harsh also!

The gears on the stem is quite nice to use

The picture of the seat lug shows a style that was more late 50s onwards.
A 1950s classified directory phone or business would possibly help, but I have not found one.
But cetainly southgate or northgate street.

Keith

That would tally with it being purchased at a police sale in 59 .....

Re:

Wonder if it has anything to do with Halls who were down Eastgate street? I think its a night club or something now. On the left, past road to bus station and a few hundred yards down. Rarely venture to Glos now, its a long way from the Forest of Dean. Bought my first proper cycling jersey from them in about 1979.
What made me think of that was Little and Halls in Ross.

Thanks mate , it could well be , not sure where the L comes from ..... looks like it might be hand built rather than mass produced ?
