Looking for 90s steel frame that will take wide tyres

it's the inbred 26er you're after - the 456 was an inbred redesigned to take longer forks and is a bit gnar for what you're after

they had various dropout designs and I don't think all of them will take the 2.8 tyre. They all take at least a 2,4 though

Way back in 1990... a lot of riders use Continental Mountain King II 2.4s on their Yos today ;)

I have a Trek Singletrack 950 from the early '90s and they will accept up to 2.3" (I have some 2.25" Schwalbe mounted). Early Scotts on the other hand have very limited clearance at the back (barely 2.0")
