What do you think of these? Ta rings and cranks...
I've seen variations of these Carmina cranks - I like them a lot - but they're quite recent.

Mavic Paris Dakar hubs?
That’s an excellent idea thank you - the splash of red yellow blue green and black also matches the Look splash of colour.
If I can find some for a decent price.

Great Project ibbz!

Colchester Cycles had one of these frame and forks hanging up above the door for years. Went back in last summer to see if that (and the Grisley) were still there but the owner told me they had long gone, (must be at least 8 years since I went in last!)

I'd always wanted to do a total Mavic build….my "O" has the 840 rear mech that I'd mismatched specced on the original. Runs really well mated to Deore DX thumbies.
I now have the bike and all the parts for a Mavic build….. just not ready to reveal all yet!

The Paris Gao Dakar hubs are ace. They also come in a Graphite Grey as well as Silver or Black.
Paris Gao Dakar rims were also available too if you want a complete group set build.
Make sure you get the 135mm rear axled hub. Many out there are the 130mm ones.
The Q/R axle is shorter too on the 130mm's. There was no matching seat Q/R lever either - retrobikeguy made his own for that lovely Cobra build he did.

He's some pics of my Wheelset. Not for sale I'm afraid….but placed for inspiration.

Watching with keen interest.

Thanks for the advice mate, I'm the type to make the mistake with the axles!
I'm aiming for as much Mavic as possible - with retrobikeguy being pretty inspirational!
There are quite a few Dakar seatposts and a few wheels - which are 130 with one being a 126?? on Ebay.
I think eventually I'll be forced to source hubs and rims seperate - so looks like an expensive way to go, unless I get lucky. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... r&_sacat=0 is for sale - a 135 rear in black. But bearings are said to be 'rough' in this particular sellers one - I wonder how straight forward it is toi change these bearings?
I saw an ad on here from 2014 - the guy just about sold a pair of these hubs for £20 for the pair. How times and prices change on things eh
I've got the Bottom bracket - just need to chamfer the shell.
What else? Wishbone shifters I guess. retrobike guy put up some interesting links for Simplex stuff - but if anything they're rarer than Mavic by some way.

The cranks will be very hard to find. but seems as if you've got everything now - can't wait for the Reveal!!!! hehe!!

Nice, I've got these, could only find an article on their vbrakes. Do you have anything on CLB saturne and neptune brakes in your magazines?

Ibbz I think full mavic dakar on this build would look fantastic. Silver version to give contrast. You could always get the older version of the hubs in silver which were posted up in the french thread. I don't think theres a difference other than paint color. They normally go for cheaper

I think you're right - but obviously depends on a) availability b) Price. but this is a long term project so doesn't matter howl ong it will take.
I'm slowly forming a build:
Headset - Mavic 316
Derailleurs - Mavic 841
Bottom Bracket - Mavic
Wheels - Mavic Dakar Silver
Cranks - either Mavic Dakar or Stronglight Rockstrong
Saddle - selle vélo perache saddle (I'm going to buy this one - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/selle-velo-p ... 2910841458)
Cantis - ABC? Sachs Rival?
Levers - No idea
Shifters - Mavic/Simplex/Sachs
Stem - No idea but must ve French
Bars - ditto
My only issue would be the 130 vs 135 rear hub. I could buy a wheelset with silver with 130 readily available. I'll measure between the rear dropouts

Some more details
“Fabrique en Canada”

And Precision crafted by “S.C” - no idea what this means.

And this has a just under 131.5mm distance between rear dropouts - would 130mm rear hub be ok?
