Look Mi90 Quadrex

Thanks so much to Sinnerman for giving me a lovely Look Mi90 frame forks package.
It’s in nice condition - will need just a little TLC - some cleaning of rust spots and a decal here or there - but I’m very happy as the paintwork etc and most of the decals are excellent!
Thank you for your kindness, It has gone to a good home and I want to see if I can turn this into something special.

The Look Mi90 “Quadrex” was the French roadie firms too of the range Mountain Bike with a Quadrex quadruple butted frame (frame only weights 5 lb on the scales, which is 2.2kg.
There was another Look Mi90 which had a Carbon Easton frame similar to John Tomac’s race bikes. I believe that was released in 1990 and this subsequently superseded that in 92.

The original had a mostly Euro component spec with Campagnolo throughout - but with a Tioga headset amongst other non Campag parts.
It received a decent enough review but was critiqued for being bang average.

Look is a French company but this bike is made in Canada - (Grisley?).

The Challenge - An all French build

I’m going to attempt an all French build. It’ll be difficult and pretty lengthy to sort the correct parts.
I’m also aiming for it to be period correct - by that I mean any parts up to 1992/93 (the year this was built/sold). I may have some difficulty with certain components so aim to use Italian where appropriate.

Components sources so far

- So far I’ve a NOS Mavic 316 headset to go on it.

- I’ve also made a deal for a Mavic 841 medium cage rear mech - here’s the picture of the one I’m going to receive (thanks mdvineng and I hope you don’t mind me using this picture)

- I’m also looking to make a deal with mdvineng for a Mavic 870 Triple front mech.

- There are some Mavic Dakar seatposts on eBay - expensive, so will see if I can find one for less.

- Wheels - Mavic rims - let’s see if there are any Sachs or other French made hubs. If anyone has any ideas or has seen anything do let me know.

Other components -

Mavic wishbone shifters if find any at an affordable price -
brakes and cantis? possible Sachs Aris Rival or New Success. But not too sure, will see and if anyone has any ideas to let me me know.
Crank/chainset? Absolutely no idea!

Here are some pictures.

Mavic Paris Dakar hubs?
That’s an excellent idea thank you - the splash of red yellow blue green and black also matches the Look splash of colour.
If I can find some for a decent price.

Welcome! There have been a bunch of them for sale over the past few months and they are not horrendous money.

Thanks- just been having a look and they’re perfect - and would match well with the Seatpost.

A Sachs Maillard cassette and Sachs Sedis chain.

I think I’ll have the most problems trying to choose a stem and bars.
I like the 3TTT ones but they’re Italian. And of course the chainset

Have you considered PMP Italian components?
Not yet - I may do if I’m struggling to find something nice and French, I could go for a 1992 FRM CU2 chainset but again, that’s italian.

for stem and bars, why not "no name" as originally ?

or Sunn Brute

merci beaucoup mon ami - et merci pour votre aimable offre d'achat en france. Ceci est très apprécié.

Yes, I was thinking about no name but no name does look boring.
I was interested in Sachs Rival cantilevers but wasn't sure about whether they're good or bad.
