LOOK KG86

Hi Rob
My friend Rob Hayles who lives in our village (Hayfield, High Peak, Derbyshire) does carbon repairs to a high standard you contact him via twitter @Re_carb Im sure he can help you out. Let me know how you get on, hopefully it will be simple, also I much rather have an issue there than upfront or seat tube. The repair is an epoxy resin and clamped with prior cleaning.
Cheers DD

Cheers DD,
much appreciate the lead. I have found a repairer in Surrey which is a bit closer to me so will check them out first but if no-go then will definitely try your contact.
kind regards
Rob

Re:

Well not a great deal to report, but I have pretty much accumulated most of the bits now. I had some correspondence with a specialist frame repairer - 'no problem, that will £80 +Vat..'

Happy days (sort of!). So will be dropping off frame in next couple of weeks, hopefully will get some photos of how they do the repair, but they have done repair work for Team Sky so fingers crossed it is in safe hands.

So Chainset landed- on first inspection it looked a bit worse for wear but using the magic of Solvol polish, now looking good..

Other item to sort was the Cinelli stem. After trying Nitromors, I did try the Oven cleaner route.... it didn't touch it either! So only way was to break out the sandpaper. Being careful not to rub off the Cinelli stamp on top (luckily the front badge pops out so that wouldn't be damaged), I rubbed down with 600/1200/2500 grit paper in that order (last two used wet) - a polish and hey presto!

Before...

After...

I might break the Airfix paint out to repaint the Cinelli motif to clean that up, but I was rather pleased with the results.

Will have some GP4 rims (thank Rusty-Bodie!) fairly shortly so when the wheels are built I will feel I am on the homeward leg...

hurray, result! that looks good amazing what fine grade wet and dry can do. That chainset looks very good. Be sure to post the repairers details up here as we all might need that sometime

Re:

Cheers Darren, much appreciated, I will certainly see if I can get the repairer to take some photos, I am rather curious as to how he will do it, but he didn't seemed phased by the request, and looking at the work on his website it certainly won't be the hardest job he has tackled. If he does a good job I will let you all know his details.

In the meantime scratching my head how to get the newly polished stem on to the bars. Can get it all round the bend, but it won't go over the central collar on the bars. Cinelli 1R stem and Cinelli Giro bars, you would have thought that should be a perfect match!

Re:

After a bit of head scratching I realised I had put the cable clamp and the angled tighter in upside down. Hey presto, sorted! :D

Re:

Goodness, where does the time go! So eventually I had the frame repaired at Carbon Frame Repair in Leatherhead in Surrey, and they have done a top job.

So all was left was to bolt the bits on accumulated over recent months and..

voila! :D

Re:

So there are a couple of bits still to sort so if any one can help I would be most grateful..

1. The bolt on the stem that tightens up the bars was pretty rounded so if any one has one of these for a Cinelli 1R that would be excellent!

2. More annoying is the 'Nos' Dura ace shifters that I bought many months ago off ebay. I found that I was missing a small round 'serrated' washer that fits between the shift lever and the frame mounting boss. I have got is indexing ok, but there is sideways slack on the shift lever that I know will bug me every time I change gear until I get it sorted. if anyone has one of those as well that would be brilliant!

Last thing to get is pedals and I see that Look now do white Keo classic pedals so those will do me fine.

Too much salt on the roads at the moment, but can't wait to give it a go in spring!
