Re: Long legs short torso: More comfortable frame, (Kona,GT,
Thank you for all the responses. Your experiences have helped me out in regard to these bikes. I was debating putting an 80mm stem with a 15 degree rise on my GT Bravado. Scared of it lifting on climbs though, I've never gone this short for a stem. It already has a 2.5" riser bar + 90mm 7° stem on it and still has an uncomfortable drop from saddle to bars. The original GT Bologna Lite fork was cut with a short steerer from the factory and I didn't want to change it out. The handling is very sharp and accurate with it. The frame could be worked with...a taller Fork- 80mm with alot of spacers? Surly 1x1 maybe? The frame had about 395mm Axle to Crown fork from factory, so would be going up to 413mm. This won't kill the handling? Alot of riders do this on here, 80mm Marzocchi Bombers/Manitous/Rockshox on these mid-90's GT's. Slightly taller forks. Props the frame up in a subtle manner. Nice example:
Didn't really want to go this route and may just give up on it. Go for a more comfortable frame. This one never felt like a mountain bike to me but a road bike :?. Love the ride however. The steel has a beautiful balance of stiffness to supple road-dampening. Very solid frame. It just rolls through rough roads like a tank. It would be sad to see her go but my neck can't handle the aggressive geometry anymore.
